The school year is chaotic to say the least. I’m juggling two group projects plus a MERN stack capstone. Not to mention, the individual projects that creep up with a baseball bat made of finely-crafted tedium ready to swing for the fences. While it may seem excessive to treat even small assignments like full-blown projects, the truth is, it’s a lifeline.
Clarity
Over the last year, I’ve used Jira, Trello and Asana. Using these tools not only communicates with the groups, but it also allows me to spot check all the individual stuff. What needs to be done? When is it due? These are the two most fundamental questions of the last few years.
The Breakdown
Breaking these projects down into bite-sized tasks is the way to go. While the urge is to sprint on one assignment to completion, that’s just not a good option. What might seem like a simple assignment at first can turn into a nightmare and throw everything else behind schedule. Breaking it down into actionable items that can be completed quickly, allows for concurrent development. It allows for quick and continuous wins on multiple projects. Concurrent development? Fancy word, but yeah. Multiple assignments get advanced at the same time.
There it is. Got to keep this short. It’s all the allotted time I’ve allowed myself today for journalin. Now it’s time to try and code a save game function.
