The danger of third-party reliance is when changes made by the third party disrupt or devastate your app. I knew this was coming. I discovered this issue while testing the app in the third-party’s beta for the new release. It still hurts.
RIP Logi. 🙁
Logi is essentially a file parser that reads a log file from the game Star Citizen. It looks for tags and processes them accordingly. If there is an alteration of those tags…or say if the company removes those tags from the log altogether…no bueno.
This is what happened. In order to respond to a community problem that was abusing their log file, the company decided to remove the tags to address it. I’m certain they will release a tool that will do what Logi does in the far far far distant future. I also think their solution to the abuse of their file is probably the right one. Still hurts.
The Good News?
My auto-updater is so nice! I had to fix a couple of minor errors, but the transition with public release 1.1 to 1.2 went as expected. The app noticed there was an update, downloaded and installed the new update, and then relaunched the newly updated app. Glorious!
The Bad News
Logi is probably shelved for the time being, but maybe we can revisit it in the future. Nothing lasts forever…not even devastation.
